The Murals

When Hometown Creamery took over the former Hotei Restaurant space in 2015, brothers Adar and Saadi Halil had little resources and needed to allocate them wisely. The extensive wooden interior lent well to their desire to have a warm and inviting atmosphere, but the prominent framed shoji screens left over didn't exactly fit...

Being San Francisco's Hometown Creamery, it only made sense to make a big statement and artistic tribute to the rich culture, history, and diverse neighborhoods of their beloved city. Owner and Head Chef  Saadi Halil painted all of the works in varying styles to capture the essence of each neighborhood. Each piece is full of references and sometimes easter eggs which can be learned about below. Click on the pieces to get their full back story!

The World Map

A fundamental aspect of Hometown Creamery is the celebration of diversity. The very thing we are experts in crafting is perhaps THE most unanimously enjoyed  and agreed upon things globally. A look at the world map in our shop will confirm that. Ice Cream is fascinating because like a blank canvas, it can be made to taste like almost anything. It transcends age, language, culture, religion, and is so flexible that it can be adapted to accommodate various dietary restrictions. Best yet, it is the most inclusionary luxury that exists as it is economically accessible to all.

Aside from being a local, neighborhood favorite, Hometown Creamery is just steps away from the principal entrance to the world renowned Golden Gate Park and its premiere institutions. As a result, we receive visitors from all corners of the globe. We were fascinated to see who stops by to enjoy our ice cream. To date, we have representation all but 6 countries in the world! Can you find them?
